A Biblical Worldview

At Evergreen Academy, we believe there is a God -- one who is personal, powerful and loving, who created the world and everything in the world. We believe unequivocally that man is created in God's image, living in essence as God's co-regent over creation.

A worldview is a comprehensive framework of fundamental beliefs, values, and assumptions that shape an individual's perspective on reality and guide their understanding of the world. It encompasses a person's core philosophical, ethical, and cultural viewpoints, influencing how they interpret and make sense of various aspects of life, including questions about the nature of existence, morality, purpose, and the relationships between individuals and the world around them. Worldviews can be deeply ingrained and may be influenced by factors such as culture, religion, personal experiences, and education. They play a significant role in shaping a person's attitudes, decisions, and behaviors.

Our worldviews encompass our beliefs about our origin, identity, the nature of reality, moral principles, and our future destiny. These beliefs are foundational, as they significantly shape all our other beliefs about the world. Therefore, it's crucial to have accurate and well-founded beliefs in these core aspects. Imagine a worldview as a pair of glasses through which we perceive the world. If these "glasses" are scratched or have the wrong prescription, our view of the world becomes distorted or incomplete. However, when our "glasses" provide a clear vision, we can navigate reality effectively.

A biblical worldview is a comprehensive perspective on life and reality that is deeply influenced by the teachings, values, and principles presented in the Bible, the sacred scripture of Christianity. It involves interpreting the world and one's place in it through the lens of biblical teachings, embracing the Bible as the ultimate source of truth and guidance for understanding morality, purpose, human nature, and the nature of the universe. At EA, we believe that the Bible provides essential truths that should shape student's beliefs, decisions, and actions, emphasizing concepts such as the existence of God as creator, adherence to the moral code found in the Bible, the significance of faith, salvation, and the ultimate purpose of life which is a salvation experience. A biblical worldview encompasses specific beliefs, including:

Origin: The world was intentionally created by God (Genesis 1:1, John 1:1-4). Human beings were likewise deliberately created by God to steward creation in a manner reflecting God's benevolent rule (Genesis 1:26-28).

Meaning: Truth is a description of reality as it truly is. We can discern truth through both reason and divine revelation. This means we can understand truth by observing and reasoning about the world (Psalm 19:1-4, Romans 1:18-20) and through special divine revelation (2 Timothy 3:16, Ephesians 3:2-6).

Identity: All humans bear the divine image, endowing them with intrinsic dignity, irrespective of their abilities or achievements (Genesis 1:27). God further demonstrated the value of humanity by taking on human form (John 1:14) and sacrificing to redeem sinful individuals (Romans 5:6-8).

Morality: God serves as the objective standard for moral goodness, to which all humans are accountable (Psalm 145). Loving God and others summarize the moral obligations for all people (Matthew 22:36-40).

Destiny: Through Christ, God reconciles individuals to Himself, and followers of Christ are called to pursue the reconciliation of others (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Eventually, God will restore all things (Revelation 21:1-4).

While it's true that everyone holds a worldview, often it forms unconsciously. This means our worldviews are shaped by our upbringing, the media we consume, and societal pressures. Therefore, developing a biblical worldview involves recognizing our existing beliefs and evaluating whether they align with what the Bible teaches. Developing a biblical worldview means aligning our beliefs with the truths found in the Bible. If we discover a belief or attitude that contradicts the Bible, we must surrender it to the authority of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

An intentional approach to Biblical worldview development empowers individuals to live a life that aligns with their faith, values, and the teachings of the Bible. Developing a Biblical worldview is a transformative journey that empowers individuals to live with purpose, integrity, and a profound connection to their faith. This journey instills a sense of depth and meaning in every aspect of their lives. It encourages them to view their daily experiences, relationships, and challenges as opportunities to apply the timeless wisdom and guidance found in the Bible. By continually nurturing and refining their Biblical worldview, individuals can lead lives of greater significance, embracing their faith as a guiding force that shapes their character, informs their decisions, and inspires them to make a positive impact on the world around them. In doing so, they not only benefit personally but also contribute to the well-being and spiritual enrichment of their communities and society as a whole.

Curriculum and Instruction: Students begin to develop a Biblical worldview through the curriculum program. The Bible is integrated throughout each course and class every day. The infusion of God's word into daily teaching and instruction helps students develop and maintain a Biblical worldview.

Director of Discipleship: Evergreen Academy has a Director of Discipleship responsible for nurturing students' spiritual growth through discipling. This involves organizing and leading purposeful activities such as the "Commissioning Warriors Discipling and Leadership Program", Spiritual Emphasis Week, and chapel services.

Faculty & Staff Development: We provide faculty and staff with opportunities for enhancing their Biblical worldviews through specialized training sessions and professional development materials. These resources encompass in-person workshops and an extensive collection of articles and videos dedicated to worldview development and its ongoing enrichment.

Partnering with Believing Parents: The Bible emphasizes that worldview development should primarily occur within the family. Therefore, EA aims to create partnerships by offering various resources and experiences that assist parents in developing their own Biblical worldviews so they are better prepared to help their children develop their Biblical worldview.
